The population of the City of Roseau is 2,818 (as of 2006). The city was incorporated in 1895, celebrating their Centennial in 1995. Roseau is the birthplace of Polaris Industries, a leading manufacturer of snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles, as well as the birthplace of the SNOWMOBILE itself! Warroad, MN is also just "down the road" approximately 25 miles northeast on Highway 11 and is home to Marvin Windows. Fishing enthusiasts from all over the U.S., Canada and beyond come to this area to fish in the fresh waters of Lake Of The Woods. Roseau's population is woven from such diverse cultural backgrounds as Scandinavian, German, Polish, Native American and Asian. You will not hear a shortage of "Ole and Lena" jokes as well as several Scandinavian accents uttering "Uff da!" or "You Betcha!"
Roseau has recreational and outdoor activities GALORE! Whether you're into fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing, hunting, bird watching, golfing, snowmobiling or the town signature sport... HOCKEY! Home to famed hockey hall of fame-ers, current and former NHL players as well as former Olympians, Roseau's natives' include: Neal Broten, Aaron Broten, Paul Broten, Blane Comstock, Rube Bjorkman, Don Ross, Bryan "Butsy" Erickson, and Dustin Byfuglien. The city of Roseau has a strong high school hockey tradition and has competed in and won the MN State High School Hockey Tourney more than any other team in the state! Roseau is also the hometown John Harris (golfer), who currently competes on the PGA Seniors Tour. As well as the hometown to actor Garrett Hedlund (Troy, Friday Night Lights, Four Brothers, Aragon, Georgia Rule)
There is no shortage of wildlife and nature attractions near Roseau, and several opportunities for viewing birds and other wildlife such as the white-tailed deer, duck, geese, partridge, black bear, moose and timber wolves. Escape to The Pine-to-Prairie Birding Trail, Hayes Lake State Park, Bemis Hill, Beltrami Island State Forest, Lost River Forest, Roseau Lake Wildlife Management Area, Roseau River Wildlife Management Area, and Lake Of The Woods. The MN state flower, the Showy Lady Slipper orchid is in abundance during the spring/summer along the Borderland Trail, which runs on Highway 11 from Greenbush to Baudette.
According to local residents, Roseau, MN "Feels Like Home". But be careful! The local folks just might get to know you on a first name basis.
